This past Sunday, August 24th, Project Porchlight took a trip to Chetwynd, BC to celebrate the district’s 150th anniversary. We quickly discovered why it’s called the “Chainsaw Sculpture Capital of the World.” All along the main streets were magnificent chainsaw carvings that rivalled the view of the neighbouring Rocky Mountains.

Project Porchlight settled in to enjoy the festivities, including dancing, singing and storytelling. We also told our own story about energy efficiency and the difference everyone in Chetwynd can make with one small change.

Joanne Roberts from Chetwynd Lions Club Recycling was the first to volunteer to deliver free bulbs in the area. But that was just the start. Our staff spent the rest of the day signing up volunteers and listening to Chetwynd’s residents, both young and old, as they shared memories of what makes their district so wonderful. After seeing how readily they agreed to join our campaign, we think we have a few bright ideas already.
