One of Project Porchlight's goals is to help clean up our environment. But Vegreville, Alberta volunteer Beatrix Berge took that notion to another level as she delivered light bulbs through her neighbourhood this summer. "(Project Porchlight) is a great way to get ideas on how to decorate the yard and create flower beds," she says.
Beatrix lives on an acreage and has been wanting to build different kinds of gardens on her property. The problem was that she wasn't sure how to go about it. But that changed when she discovered how her neighbours had done up their yards. "I saw all kinds of great things when I was doing Porchlight," Beatrix says. "Trees, waterfalls, different types of flowers and where to put them - shady spots, sunny spots."
A service writer at farm equipment dealer AgriTrac, Beatrix welcomed the opportunity to step away from her computer and spend some time outside. "I sure had a lot of fun, and it was great exercise too," she says. "If (One Change) needs any more help in the future, (they can) let me know." In the meantime, Beatrix will be spending as much time as possible outside, planting and building her new gardens.
