Thanks to tremendous community support in Kent, WA, Project Porchlight staff and volunteers were pumped and ready to rock for the Kent Bulb Blitz on September 30.

Hari Neelakantan (pictured here) says he volunteers because he was inspired by what he saw in September 2001. A good friend was hurt during the World Trade Center attack, and Hari was overwhelmed by the outpouring of support that eventually helped him find his friend in the hospital. “So many volunteers came down from different parts of the country,” says Hari.

Taking care of their environment is important to the residents of Auburn, WA. And they more than proved it at the city’s 3rd Annual Disaster Preparedness Fair on Saturday, September 26. Nearly 1,000 people came out to Les Gove Community Campus to take part in the event, which was held by the City of Auburn Emergency Management Office as part of National Disaster Preparedness month.

This year, Wilcox Family Farms is celebrating 100 years of delivering fresh, local eggs to distributors across Washington state. What does that mean for Project Porchlight? That the Wilcox Family Farms Harvest Fest 2009 was an event not to be missed!

What: Puget Sound Energy and Sound Transit are partnering to remind riders about energy conservation during October, which is ENERGY STAR®’s Energy Awareness Month.

When the city of Federal Way, WA needs volunteers, Todd Beamer High School teacher Scott Haines (pictured here) is one of the first to get the call. “We’ve supplied literally hundreds of volunteers,” says Scott. “Our high school is really involved in getting volunteers for local events and things like that.”

Project Porchlight, in conjunction with Puget Sound Energy, will be in Auburn to conduct a “Neighborhood Blitz” with a goal is to distribute 275,000 energy efficient light bulbs in the Puget Sound region. The blitz will be in Auburn on Thursday from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

The Puyallup Fair is a whirling dervish of fun, excitement, and energy. People from across the south Puget Sound community flock to the fairgrounds for the roller coasters, live music, petting farms, and unusual treats like chocolate bacon and fried Twinkies.
